Animal, Vegetable, Mineral
2011
Britannia Mine Museum (Sea to Sky Highway 99, 55 km north of Vancouver, BC)
Extracting Canadian musical treasures
Uniformed “tour guides” (dancers in disguise) lead the audience in a moveable concert through the historic buildings and artifacts of the Britannia Mine, once the largest copper mine in the British Empire, now an award-winning Museum and National Historic Site.
An all-contemporary, all-Canadian concert highlighting the music of 11 composers, Animal, Vegetable, Mineral features the world premieres of Leslie Uyeda’s The Sex Lives of Vegetables – Volume III and Kathryn Cernauskas’ Pizza for beat-box flute.
A “New Music in New Places” Astrolabe Musik Theatre / Britannia Mine Museum / Canadian Music Centre co-production.
