About Astrolabe

WHAT IS ASTROLABE MUSIK THEATRE?

We are an exciting company creating challenging and compelling multi- and inter-disciplinary works of music theatre.  We push traditional boundaries of art song, opera and chamber music through the integration of diverse artistic practices to reinterpret established repertoire and create original work by bringing together seasoned and emerging artists in a collaborative process.  Astrolabe explodes the confines of traditional performance space through inter-active and imaginative use of alternative and site-specific venues, while expanding performance practices within traditional concert halls and theatres.

We are committed to multi- and inter-disciplinary collaborations and are particularly passionate about the creation and performance of new works by Canadian artists.  We believe in the dynamic engagement of audiences through active participation, performance excellence, innovative programming, and the creation of new experiences through site-specific venues.

Astrolabe Musik Theatre was formed in March 2010 as a natural step from Artistic Director Heather Pawsey’s significant history of self-producing music theatre, chamber music concerts and traditional recitals from Halifax to Vancouver as an individual artist since 1991.
