APPARITIONS
Music on Main: A Month of Tuesdays
Come – reconsider. Sex. Religion. Death.
A three-cycle exploration of the mystical, the sensual, and the transcendent, John Harbison’s Mirabai Songs, Leslie Uyeda’s The First Woman and George Crumb’s Apparition have, at their core, intensely personal, erotic relationships with “God” and mortality – attempting, with passion and conviction, to express the inexpressible.
A ground-breaking collaboration between the seemingly opposite worlds of classical art song recital and contemporary dance, APPARITIONS steps out of bounds – literally – with the staging, for singer and pianist, of George Crumb’s challenging and profound Apparition.
Heather Pawsey, soprano; Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa, piano; Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg, choreography
